I’ve just got engaged. What should I be doing?

1. Enjoy It

Spend time with family and friends. Have a party. Take lots of photos of the ring. Wrap yourself round your fiance. Have a celebratory drink or two.

Take time to bask in the love and excitement.

2. Research Wedding Venues

What a view. Our round tables with chiavari chairs.

Think about the type of wedding you want. An outdoor wedding? An old manor house? Something different? Unique? Start by researching online. Think about your budget and then give the venues a call or an email.

We of course would always opt for an outdoors wedding, because we genuinely believe that there is no better backdrop than the beautiful English countryside.

3. Decide on the number of guests

Decide on how big this day, or in some cases few days is going to be. Discuss with your partner and if you need to get family involved (maybe they are contributing to the cost) talk with them too.

4. Make a budget

This maybe be partly driven by the number of guests you are having or the venue that you may have decided upon. But be realistic about what you can afford. Yes this is (hopefully) a once in a life time event, possibly the happiest day of your life, but you also don’t want to plung yourselves into debt for ever more. So think carefully about what you’re prepared to spend. You may need to do some research first, in to the cost of catering for example, but then make a budget and try to stick to it.

5. Decide on a date

This may be dependent on the type of wedding you want and the wedding venue availability. We would recommend that outdoors weddings are during the months between May and September. Think about bank holidays, as these are popular and will need early booking.

6. Look for inspiration

Our number one fountain of inspiration is of course Pinterest. But there are lots of wedding blogs and magazines out there. Obviously this one! But we also love Mr and Mrs Unique and Hitched.
